It makes me laugh when people suggest stuff like this happens everywhere. Yes but it happens more in some places than others. English cities on Friday or Saturday night have so many more fights than, say, Singapore or Oslo on Friday or Saturday night.

This is so sad, in this dangerous world its a bad idea to be out after midnight , particularly if you are alone or a woman or both, stay safe , stay at home

I hope he gets some of his sight back. Poor guy. Such a terrible, horrific thing to happen. I read a story once about a little boy in China who had his eyes gouged out (by hand) by a random woman on his way home from school. What is wrong with people in this world. So pleased the guy who did this to him has been caught.

The system …of needs to be seriously reformed. Shocking that ‘loose cannons’ are running about …. obviously something seriously wrong ! It’s not unknown that alcohol can trigger impulsive/aggressive behaviour in some people.

There is a different vibe than there was 20-30 years ago. The amount of young people hammering huge amounts of cocaine with a mixture of alcohol is an awful combination. The mixing of these substances is way too common and the sentences for assaults under the influence for permanent injuries should be enormous.

Moral of the story: Dont go out at night drinking. Its not only alcohol but drugs that people mix together. Also, people dont have any religion or morale anymore.

Something very similar happened to a friend of mine around 2006. He was also attacked on a night out and glassed in the face. In his case, one eye was cut in half and had to be removed. The eyelid muscles were also severed, so he has no control over it, and it opens and closes on its own. Because of the lack of an eye, this might be a gruesome sight to most people, so he wears an eyepatch. The other eye was luckily unharmed. His attacker was also something with a long and varied past of violent attacks and convictions. A lowlife who really shouldn't be allowed to mingle with the general public. But unlike Matt's attacker, who (supposedly) didn't mean to blind him, my friend's attacker knew exactly what he was doing. With the help of his father and other family members, all of whom had similar criminal pasts, he managed to flee the country.

Band anything that effects a person's judgment it's not rocket science.. yet again the people who run ower societies are letting us down.. No alcahole is good alcahole along with drugs cigarette and sugar in a lot of cases. Band all of it. It's enough to make you move to the East

Vinny Jones was a victim of a horrible attack in the U.S. Unprovoked , he was wearing a peak cap with apparently a rival baseball team. He had a pint class in the face! It severed his nose which was hanging on by a thread but they managed to re-attatched it. But i am so shocked at this attack. I feel so bad for this man , what a cowardice weapon to use ! I will pray he at least gets his sight back in his right eye. 🙏

I’m 48 and vividly recall watching the aftermath of a glassing in a suburban pub in south Manchester when I was 17. As other people on here have commented - we now have another layer of violent 💩 on nights out in the form of widespread casual cocaine use. If I go out - I tend to look for venues that have more of a ‘hipster’ vibe as they tend to be frequented by nicer people - not coked-up steroidal mutants.

Nightlife can be fun but you've got to be really careful. There's a ton of egotistical people waiting for the wrong person to walk by. Vibes are worse since COVID too, I think due to increased mental health issues. If it feels weird or sketchy definitely listen to your gut. Scary stuff, wish this guy the absolute best.
